Dr Hiroaki Nagayama
Senior Energy Economist and Power Systems Planning Expert

Dr Nagayama is an energy economist and power-sector specialist with over three decades of international experience in power-system planning, electricity-market reform, renewable energy policy and energy-sector development. He currently serves as Professor at Kyoto University’s Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability.

His professional experience includes power development planning, electricity demand forecasting, tariff and regulatory analysis, transmission planning, rural electrification, energy-transition policy and institutional reform. He has advised governments and development partners across Asia and other regions, including assignments for JICA, the World Bank, ADB and other international organisations. His research has examined electricity-sector liberalisation, power prices, transmission investment, renewable energy integration, pumped-storage hydropower and cross-regional transmission systems.

Dr Nagayama holds a PhD in Energy Economics from Kyoto University, an MBA from Yale University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Keio University. His academic work has received major recognition in Japan, including the Energy Forum Excellence Award and the Takahashi Kamekichi Memorial Award for Excellence.
