Dr Kanya Souksakoun
Senior Environmental and Social Safeguards Specialist

Dr Kanya is an environmental and social safeguards specialist with nearly two decades of experience in infrastructure, renewable energy, hydropower, rural development and urban transport projects in Lao PDR. She currently lectures on Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment at the National University of Laos.

Her consulting experience covers environmental and social impact assessment, safeguards monitoring, socio-economic baseline studies, stakeholder engagement, livelihood restoration, gender and social inclusion, and grievance redress mechanisms. She has served as a safeguards specialist, environmental manager and team leader for projects supported by the World Bank, ADB, JICA, WWF and other development partners. Her recent work includes environmental and social assessments for renewable energy projects and safeguards support for major wind, hydropower and rural infrastructure developments.

Dr Kanya holds a PhD in Resources, Environment and Development from the Australian National University. She has also completed specialised training in the World Bank Environmental and Social Framework, project management, waste management, applied statistics and sustainable hydropower.
