Mr Somchith Thongphanheuangsy
Senior Civil, Irrigation and Hydropower Engineer

Mr Somchith is a senior civil engineer with over four decades of experience in irrigation, hydropower, water-resources development and flood-management projects in Lao PDR. He currently serves as Director of SC Consultants Sole Co., Ltd., where he has led feasibility and reconnaissance studies for hydropower projects across Xiengkhouang, Xayabouly, Savannakhet, Champasack and Attapeu provinces.

Before joining the private sector, Mr Somchith held senior technical and management positions within the Department of Irrigation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, including Director of its Technical Division. His work covered irrigation planning and strategy, feasibility studies, detailed engineering design, construction supervision, procurement, flood mitigation and institutional development. He has designed and supervised dams, reservoirs, pumping systems, irrigation networks and micro-hydropower projects throughout Lao PDR.

Mr Somchith holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Engineering Construction College in Vientiane. He has also completed specialised international training in irrigation engineering, hydropower and environmental impact assessment, water-development economics, and sustainable water-resources management.
